YOU ARE MADE NEW

You have learned what Jesus has done.
You have begun to grow in the Word, in prayer, and in obedience.
Now, you must understand who you are because of what God has done.

NOT AN IMPROVEMENT.
A RESURRECTION.

If your identity is not clear, everything else becomes unstable.

When you trusted in Jesus, something real happened. Not just around you, but within you.

Scripture does not describe salvation as a small change or a moral improvement. It describes it as a completely new life.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 (ESV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

[ X ] This is not symbolic language.

[ X ] You are not the same person you were before.

[ X ] Your identity is no longer defined by your past, your sin, or your former way of life.

You are now defined by your relationship to Christ.

BROUGHT NEAR

Before, you were separated from God.

EPHESIANS 2:12–13 (ESV)

“remember that you were at that time separated from Christ… having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

This change is not something you created. You did not make yourself new.

God made you new.

EPHESIANS 2:4–5 (ESV)

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved.”

You were dead in sin.
Now you are alive to God.
This is not a process that begins later. This is what happens when you are brought into Christ.

OWNED AND CLEARED

Because of this, your identity has changed completely. You are no longer defined by what you were. You are now defined by who you belong to.

1 PETER 2:9 (ESV)

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession”

You belong to God. That is not something you earn. It is something you are given.

You are also no longer under condemnation.

ROMANS 8:1 (ESV)

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

This means your past does not hold authority over you.

Your sin has been dealt with.

You are not living under judgment.

You are living in what Christ has accomplished.

THE HIDDEN LIFE

At the same time, this does not mean everything around you feels different immediately. You may still think the same in some ways. You may still struggle.

But your identity is not based on what you feel. It is based on what God has declared.

COLOSSIANS 3:3 (ESV)

“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Your life is now rooted in Him. That is where your identity comes from.

THE NEW DIRECTION

Because you are made new, your direction changes. You are not trying to become someone different.

You are learning to live as someone who already is.

COLOSSIANS 3:10 (ESV)

“and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”

This is where growth continues. You are being shaped into what is already true about you.

DO NOT GO BACK TO DEFINING YOURSELF BY YOUR PAST.

DO NOT MEASURE YOURSELF BY WHAT YOU WERE.

Stand in what God has done.

Let that be clear. Let that shape how you think. Let that guide how you live.
