WHY IT MATTERS
You have seen that not everything that sounds right is true. Now you must understand why this matters.
This is not a small issue. This affects everything.
WHAT YOU BELIEVE
DICTATES HOW YOU LIVE.
If what you believe is wrong, your direction will be wrong. Jesus makes this entirely clear.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came… but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
Truth is your foundation.
If your foundation is compromised, everything built on it will be unstable. False teaching does not just give you wrong information. It leads you in the wrong direction.
“Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”
Sincerity does not save you if you are sincerely following a lie. If you follow what is not true, you will not stay on the right path. This is why discernment matters. It protects your relationship with God. It protects your understanding of truth. It protects your growth.
THE LETHAL DRIFT
False teaching often starts small. It may only be slightly off. But over time, it moves you further from what is true. Scripture warns directly about this kind of drift.
“Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.”
Drifting does not happen all at once.
It happens slowly.
Without attention, it happens naturally. You do not have to make a conscious decision to abandon the truth to lose it; you only have to stop paying attention. This is why you must stay grounded.
THE DISTORTION OF GOD
False teaching affects how you see God. If God is misrepresented, everything else becomes distorted.
This is serious. Jesus speaks directly about truth and its function in your life.
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
Freedom is connected entirely to truth.
Not partial truth. Not distorted truth. Truth. If truth sets you free, then error keeps you bound. You are not just learning information. You are building your life.
REJECTING THE POPULAR
Scripture teaches that there will be people who refuse to remain in sound teaching. They will seek out teachers who say exactly what they want to hear.
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,”
This means you cannot follow what is popular. You must follow what is true.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
[ X ] TRUTH BUILDS YOUR LIFE.
[ X ] ERROR LEADS YOU OFF COURSE.
[ X ] DISCERNMENT PROTECTS YOU.
DO NOT TREAT THIS LIGHTLY.
STAY GROUNDED. STAY ANCHORED.
Now that you understand why this matters, the next step is learning how to test everything you hear so you can recognize truth clearly.
