HOLDING TO TRUTH

You have learned how to recognize error, test what you hear, avoid deception, and stand apart from the world.
Now everything comes together.

TRUTH IS NOT SOMETHING YOU VISIT.
IT IS SOMETHING YOU STAND ON.

If you do not hold to truth, you will drift. Not all at once, but slowly. Your thinking will shift, your direction will change, and over time you will not even realize how far you have moved.

Scripture calls you to stand firm.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:58 (ESV)

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable…”

Immovable means you do not shift.

/// Not when something sounds better. ///
/// Not when something feels easier. ///
/// Not when something is more popular. ///

You remain grounded.

THE UNCHANGING STANDARD

Holding to truth means you do not adjust it. Truth is not shaped by culture. Truth is not shaped by opinion. Truth is not shaped by what is accepted.

Scripture teaches that God’s Word does not change.

ISAIAH 40:8 (ESV)

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

Everything else shifts. Truth does not.

Because of this, you do not move with what changes. You stay with what remains.

THE REFUSAL TO COMPROMISE

Holding to truth also means you do not compromise. There will be pressure. There will be moments where it would be easier to adjust, to stay quiet, or to follow what others are doing.

Scripture teaches you to stand.

EPHESIANS 6:13 (ESV)

“…take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

Standing firm means you do not give in. You remain.

THE REQUIREMENT OF CLARITY

Holding to truth also requires clarity. You must know what is true. You cannot hold to something you do not understand. This is why you stay in the Word.

JOHN 8:31–32 (ESV)

“If you abide in my word… you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Truth is known by remaining in it.

THE ACTION OF TRUTH

Holding to truth also affects how you live. It is not only what you believe. It is how you act. Scripture teaches that you are to be doers of the Word, not hearers only.

JAMES 1:22 (ESV)

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only…”

TRUTH IS LIVED. NOT JUST UNDERSTOOD.

There will be moments where standing in truth is not easy. You may be misunderstood. You may be challenged. You may stand alone. But your foundation does not change.

[ X ] TRUTH DOES NOT CHANGE.

[ X ] YOU DO NOT ADJUST IT.

[ X ] YOU STAND FIRM IN IT.

[ X ] YOU LIVE IT OUT.

THIS IS WHERE YOUR WALK BECOMES STRONG.

THIS IS WHERE YOUR FOUNDATION BECOMES STEADY.

HOLD TO TRUTH. DO NOT MOVE.

Now that you understand what it means to hold to truth, the next step is learning how to stand firm when you are challenged so you do not give in under pressure.
