To dissolve this union without biblical cause is to attempt a violent tearing of the Imago Dei mirror.

The historic Church understood that equality of worth does not necessitate identity of function. The “Order of Creation” demands that identity be received as a sacred stewardship. The battle over divorce is essentially a battle over the visibility of the Gospel.

LEXICAL AUDIT: PORNEIA

A central pivot of doctoral-level debate is the “Exception Clause” in Matthew 19:9 (LSB). The Greek term Porneia (πορνεία) is distinct from *moicheia* (adultery). Scholarly views range from the “Betrothal View” (unchastity during the engagement period) to the “Erasmian Position” (persistent adultery).

Textual precision suggests that *porneia* denotes a persistent, unrepentant violation of the sexual covenant. This is a **judicial permission** granted solely because of the “hardness of heart” (Greek: sklērokardia). It is not a mandate, but a provision for the victim against treachery.

When we normalize easy divorce, we vandalize the visibility of the Cross.

DISARMING DISTORTIONS

MALACHI 2:16

“I hate divorce”

THE ASSUMPTION:

God prohibits divorce in all circumstances without exception.

THE EVIDENCE:

LSB translates: “For I hate divorce… and him who covers his garment with violence.” God hates the treachery of the breaker, not the innocent seeking refuge (Mal 2:16).

LUKE 16:18

“Commits Adultery”

THE ASSUMPTION:

Any remarriage is a state of perpetual adultery.

THE EVIDENCE:

This refers to the act of divorcing *for the purpose* of marrying another. Once a biblical dissolution occurs, the “one flesh” entity is judicially terminated (Luke 16:18).

1 CORINTHIANS 7:11

“Remain Unmarried”

THE ASSUMPTION:

Remarriage is forbidden for all Christians at all times.

THE EVIDENCE:

This applies to those who divorce without biblical warrant. They must reconcile or remain single. Warranted divorce implies the “innocent party” is free (1 Cor 7:11).

FORENSIC RESTORATION

The rejection of the biblical order has resulted in the “human ache” of fractured homes. The Church must not respond with cultural surrender, but with a restoration of the **Covenantal Taxis**. Truth divorced from holiness becomes hypocrisy.

For those who have failed, the Gospel provides forensic righteousness. For the assembly, the standard of marriage remains the high-water mark of our witness. We do not honor the law by making it negotiable; we honor it by showing the grace that sustains it.
