WHY HE HAD TO DIE
You have seen what Jesus did.
Now this must be made absolutely clear.
Why did it require blood?
GOD IS HOLY.
He is absolute purity. His justice is uncompromising.
He does not lower His standard for anyone.
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
GOD IS ALSO JUST.
“All his ways are justice.”
Because God is perfectly holy and just, sin cannot be ignored.
It cannot be excused. It cannot be treated as if it does not matter.
THE WEIGHT OF SIN
Sin is not a small mistake.
Sin is cosmic rebellion against the Creator.
“Sin is lawlessness.”
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
THE FATAL CONSEQUENCE
Because of sin, a consequence is demanded.
“For the wages of sin is death.”
This is not only a physical death.
This is eternal separation from God.
“Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God.”
AN IMPOSSIBLE DILEMMA
This creates a chasm that human effort cannot cross.
[ X ] NO AMOUNT OF GOOD WORKS CAN REMOVE SIN.
[ X ] TRYING HARDER DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.
[ X ] BEING “GOOD” DOES NOT REMOVE LEGAL GUILT.
“All our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.”
Because God is a just judge, the crime must be punished.
“It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”
THIS IS WHY
JESUS HAD TO DIE.
The cross was not a tragic accident or a mere moral example.
It was a targeted execution. He died to absorb the judgment for sin.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities.”
The punishment that belongs to sinners was placed directly on Him.
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin.”
Jesus had no sin. Yet on the cross, He was treated as if He did.
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.”
THE REQUIREMENT OF BLOOD
This is why His death was an absolute necessity.
A holy God cannot simply let the guilty walk free.
Without His death, there is no forgiveness.
“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”
God did not ignore sin. He judged it.
But instead of judging us, He poured out that judgment on Jesus.
“whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood… to show God’s righteousness.”
* (Propitiation means the wrath-absorbing sacrifice)
JUSTICE AND MERCY MEET
THE CROSS ACCOMPLISHED BOTH:
/// SIN WAS COMPLETELY JUDGED.
/// SINNERS CAN BE COMPLETELY FORGIVEN.
Do not move past this quickly.
If you understand why He had to die, the cross will no longer look like a tragedy. It will look like a rescue mission.
