SET 2 // FIRE 1 : PAGE 3

UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU READ

You know why the Word matters. You know where to start.
Now you must learn the absolute rules of engagement for extracting objective truth.

THE MEANING IS FIXED.
IT IS NOT SUBJECTIVE.

Reading the Bible is not just moving your eyes across ink. It is absorbing what the Creator is actively saying. If you read without comprehension, the text will remain locked. When you truly understand it, the truth begins to reconstruct your mind.

Start with this core rule: Scripture has a fixed meaning.

2 PETER 1:20-21 (ESV)

“knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

The message comes directly from God. It does not come from human opinion. The Bible is not a mirror meant to reflect what you want it to say. Your sole mission when reading is to discover the actual intent of the Author.

THE LAW OF CONTEXT

A single verse pulled out of its surrounding text is a dangerous tool. You cannot isolate one line and ignore the chapter it lives in.

2 TIMOTHY 2:15 (ESV)

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

Rightly handling the Word requires submission to the context. Keep your reading simple. When you open a passage, force yourself to answer three primary questions:

[ 1 ] WHAT IS THE ACTUAL MESSAGE BEING DELIVERED HERE?

[ 2 ] WHAT DOES THIS EXPOSE ABOUT THE CHARACTER OF GOD?

[ 3 ] HOW DOES THIS TEXT DEMAND I CHANGE MY LIFE?

SCRIPTURE INTERPRETS SCRIPTURE

The Bible is an integrated, flawless system. You will begin to notice that different books, written centuries apart, perfectly support one another. If a verse appears confusing, you allow the rest of the Bible to decode it for you.

LUKE 24:27 (ESV)

“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

The entire architecture of the Bible points directly to Jesus Christ.

THE DEMAND FOR ACTION

Acquiring theological knowledge is useless if it does not produce obedience. You must approach the text with a total willingness to be corrected.

JAMES 1:22 (ESV)

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

THE WORD IS A COMMAND, NOT A SUGGESTION.

If you read Scripture solely to gather facts, you are deceiving yourself. The Word will frequently assault your pride and condemn your actions. That correction is proof you are growing.

THE ENGINE OF ILLUMINATION

Do not expect everything to make absolute sense on day one. Certain doctrines take time to fully grasp.

PROVERBS 2:3-5 (ESV)

“yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding… then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.”

You are not reading this book alone. The Holy Spirit is the active agent illuminating the text in your mind.

JOHN 14:26 (ESV)

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

God works directly through His Word to train you. Do not rush into the most complex sections of theology before you are ready. Stay grounded in the basics. Build your comprehension brick by brick.

THE FINAL MANDATE

The ultimate objective is not to read the Bible. The objective is to let the Bible completely conquer and reshape your life.

/// BE CONSISTENT. ///
/// NEVER STOP READING. ///
