RECOGNIZING FALSE TEACHING
You have learned how to walk with God, stay consistent, and build discipline.
Now you must learn discernment. This is where many are misled.
ERROR RARELY SOUNDS WRONG.
IT SOUNDS RIGHT.
Many do not fall because they reject God. They fall because they do not recognize error when it is dressed up as truth. False teaching may use Scripture. It may sound powerful. It may be preached with absolute confidence. But it is not aligned with truth.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
This means you cannot judge a teaching by how it looks or how it makes you feel.
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Scripture commands you to test what you hear. You are entirely responsible to examine the teaching. You do not follow blindly.
THE PREDATORY GOSPEL
THE MEGA-CHURCH DECEPTION
Do not be blinded by production. Look at the modern landscape. Massive stages, brilliant lighting, and charismatic speakers.
They sound amazing. They draw tens of thousands. But if you look closely at the teaching, you are being led into a lethal trap. Many of these movements are completely after your money. They package a motivational speech with a few Bible verses pulled entirely out of context. They use God as a transactional tool, promising you that He only wants you rich, comfortable, and successful.
“…imagining that godliness is a means of gain.”
This is a severe warning.
If the cross is removed, if suffering is ignored, and if repentance is never mentioned, it is not a church. It is a business. It sounds encouraging, but it is a lie that leads to destruction.
HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE ERROR
Beyond prosperity teaching, false doctrine hides in other subtle ways. Here is what it looks like in real situations:
Verses are quoted to support a specific idea, but the full meaning of the text is completely ignored. This makes a lie sound biblical.
It sounds positive. It sounds safe. But it removes what Scripture clearly demands.
“No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
Truth calls for change. It does not coddle your comfort.
It feels powerful. It creates a massive emotional response in the room. But it is not grounded in what God actually said.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”
Feeling something deeply does not make it true.
The focus becomes the person, their platform, their brand, and their influence. Instead of Christ being the center.
“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
THE ULTIMATE STANDARD
This is why you must stay grounded in the Word. Your standard is not a preacher. It is not a popular church. It is not a massive platform.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
The Word is your absolute standard. This is how you stay protected. You do exactly what the early church did.
“Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
DISCERNMENT PROTOCOL:
[ X ] NOT EVERYTHING THAT SOUNDS RIGHT IS TRUE.
[ X ] NOT EVERYTHING THAT FEELS POWERFUL IS FROM GOD.
[ X ] TRUTH IS MEASURED STRICTLY BY SCRIPTURE.
DO NOT FOLLOW BLINDLY. DO NOT ASSUME.
TEST EVERYTHING.
This is where your walk becomes strong. The next step is understanding why being grounded in true doctrine is a matter of life and death.
